Triumph Factory Shops
Triumph is one of the world’s leading producers of women’s lingerie and shapewear.
They have a wide product range and an impressive track record of over 125 years in the business. Over the years, the company has developed a reputation for its attention to detail, its technical innovations in the industry, and the quality of its products, which are popular among women from all over the world.
Triumph was founded in 1886 by John Gottfriend Spiesshofer, a skilled weaver and pioneer who developed many new techniques for the manufacturing of garments, and his friend, a merchant named Michel Braun. The pair originally worked out of a small barn in the region of Swabia in southwestern Germany, designing new underwear products for women which were carefully manufactured with the assistance of six dedicated seamstresses.
The corsets they made were originally made from whalebone and silk, which were popular materials for undergarments at the time. The product proved immediately popular among the local market, and in only four years the company’s workforce had grown to 150 people.
Becoming Leaders in the lingerie market
By the turn of the 20th century, the products had changed in accordance with the more relaxed attitude of the time, and so had the company’s name: from ‘Spiesshofer and Braum’ to the simpler and more memorable ‘Triumph’. By the 1930s, Triumph had become the world leader in the lingerie market.
It was in 1933 that the company introduced further innovations, such as the world’s first bra with adjustable straps.
After the war, the rock ‘n’ roll fashions of the time led the company to introduce more stylish products, and for the first time, bras were seen not only as functional items, but as fashionable ones as well. It was around this time that Triumph became a truly international company, expanding its operations to Europe at large.
By the mid-1960s, Triumph had extended its operations to 92 countries worldwide, developed the first bras with moulded cups and without visible seams, and had created the world’s all-time bestselling bra, known as the ‘Doreen’.
The brand continued to move with the times and the changing attitudes that came with them, including the feminist movement and the aerobics craze of the 1970s and 80s, both of which led to the development of new products such as the sports bra and the incorpration of new technologies such as ultrasonic welding into the production process. Fast forward to the present day, when the great-great-grandchildren of the company’s founders still oversee the management of its business operations, and Triumph is now a brand worn by women across the entire world.
